Name:  Sun conure Parrot

Range:
Eastern Panama and northNortheastern Amazon basin. Guianas, Southeast Venezuela, to Northwestern Brazil.

Habitat:
Savannas, open forests, palm groves. And along the banks of the Amazon River in scrub forests during seasonal flooding periods.

Description:
Body is yellow, tinged with brilliant orange on the forehead, cheeks, neck, breast and abdomen. The greater wing coverts are green-tipped with yellow; primary coverts and secondaries are dark blue, edged with green on the outer margins. Flight feathers are green toward the base, and blue toward the tips as are the tail feathers. The iris is brown with a white skin patch around the eye. The bill is a brownish horn color. Legs and feet are a brownish flesh color.

Adaptations/Habitat:
At times these birds can be surprisingly inconspicuous as they feed quietly amidst scrubby vegetation. However in flight they are extremely noisy, and their screeching call-notes can be heard long before the birds come into view. Flight is swift and direct. They generally flock in numbers between 20-40. One of the most beautifully colored of the conures, this species is a great favorite with the native human population who frequently raise many young birds by hand.
