Range: Cape region of Baja California, Mexico and some offshore islands.
Habitat: Rocky outcrops and rock piles.
Description: Snout to vent length 3 ½ to 7 inches. Flattened body with small, smooth, granular scales and slightly keeled scales near the tail. Head bluish with red to orange colors around the eyes, yellow neck with blue spots and streaks. Back to tail is gray blue with darker cross bars.
Adaptations/Habitat: This lizard’s flattened body structure and spraddled gait make this animal perfectly adapted for living in rock piles. This animal is able to move with great agility from rock to rock and squeeze into tight rock crevices to evade predation.
Breeding/Growth: Not much information is known about their reproductive cycle. Both females and males get brighter colors in the breeding season. Females get streaks of red in the breeding season.
Diet: Leaves, fruits, blossoms and invertebrates. Sometimes small vertebrates.
