Name:  White-handed Gibbon

Range:
Thailand, the Malaysian peninsula and the northern third of Sumatra.

Habitat:
Gibbons spend their entire lives in the tall trees of tropical rainforests.

Description:
Small body size which causes it to be classified as a lesser ape. Their arms are relatively longer than their legs, adapting them to suspensory locomotion - or brachiation - which allows rapid movement through the forest canopy. The white-handed gibbon can be either black or buff colored. They have white hands and feet.

Adaptations/Habitat:
Gibbons protect their territory by loud singing and spectacular gymnastics, which is a show of force.

Breeding/Growth:

Diet:
Fruit, young leaves and a few invertebrates, depending on availability. Gibbons also show a preference for fleshy, sugary fruit and figs.
